I have waited right up to the end of my first year anniversary. With membership they provided a coupon for 5 submissions. I filled out the online submission form and have now printed it out. It seems pretty self explanatory at this point. I just need to package and I guess send as registered insured even though the coins will likely come back with Details grading. I am sending in for both authentication and subsequent slabbing. It would be silly not to insure them, then again I guess some consider these coins worthless? Why wouldn't I insure for 6k? 4 of these were passed down, the 21s is a NEWP Comments appreciated, especially if you spot a fake. I am submitting 1894 Morgan XF - Authenticate - Harsh/improper Cleaning 1937 D 3 Leg XF - Authenticate - Cleaned 1909 SVDB F-VF Authenticate - Suspect Mintmark (mashed) 1914 D XF - Very old cleaning - fingers crossed! 1921 S MS64RB - Fingers crossed. CLICK PICS TWICE for highest resolution.

These are great looking coins and ALL, worthy of submission. That's really too bad about that 1894 $1. YES! Registered with Insurance and get a receipt! I agree that the 14-D has had an old cleaning. The toning does not seem original for a non-cleaned coin. I'm betting the 09-S VDB is the real deal. Let us know how it turns out

I found the diagnostics for the Morgan. I am convinced the die gouges in the recessed areas are also present on this coin, in spite of the heavy scratch where a mint mark "O" would be.
So I contend, it is a circulated Morgan albeit circulated in some guys pocket who just happened to be carrying a brillo pad in the same pocket! :) Would it be a good idea to carry it around for awhile to get a real circulated grade? wont those scratches wear off with time?
The SVDB mm is perfectly placed with die pair 3 if I remember right. The problem with this coin is that the S literally looks smashed.
The 14-D is a heart breaker. I have seen that coin for about 30 years, (it was my Dad's) if it comes back as cleaned, I think I'll quit storing it and let it get a better sun tan on the window sill.
No comments on the buffalo? I thought 3 leggers were a big deal.
Thank you all. I do intend on updating this thread with details as time goes on. I also will be doing a PCGS submission in the next month or so.

Okay I decided to ship USPS express since that pretty much guarantees hand to hand delivery and subsequent scanning. I have heard that registered mail can be slow plus I need the coins there before my 1 year anniversary. NGC has a feature where you can fill out all the forms online and then Print. They require each coin to be put into a non pvc flip with a label (printed from the online submission) and 3 copies of the submission (which are also printed automatically from the online submission) I also included copies email correspondence along with a concern that had been expressed about this type of submission and that since this is my first time, I hope there aren't any problems....... blah blah blah.. Packaged and Weighed everything together and used my USPS click and ship account insured for 5k - cost to ship overnight plus insurance --> $32.15 Ran to the Post Office got there at 5PM - just in time to irritate the already seasonal busy postal workers by demanding them to scan it in now for confirmation of receipt at the Post Office. Good thing most of them know me! They were none to happy when I enter the sorting area from the loading dock... sorry no pics of that!

Okey dokey.... Looks like my submission arrived safe and sound
Invoice No. Invoice Date No. of Coins Total Value Status 12/15/10 5 5900.00 Received
ORDER STATUS EXPLANATION
Status Meaning Received
The submission package has arrived at NGC and the number of coins in each package has been checked against the number shown on the submission invoice. The coins have been arranged by service type and date received to await the verification process.
Verification is a detailed check that the date, denomination and mint mark of the coins match the information on the submission form.
Scheduled For Grading
Verification has been completed and submission information is entered into a computer so the coins will be traceable throughout the grading process by invoice number.
Each coin is given a temporary holder with a label bearing its invoice and line item number as text and bar-code. The coins are placed in labeled and bar-coded plastic boxes, dated, and are arranged in the order received, so that they will be graded on a "first in-first out" basis by service type.
They are now awaiting the NGC grading process, and once graded, the encapsulation process.

Nice coins, I see you are in for $32.15 to get them there, how much was your membership and do they still have that program going? Thanks! Love that 1914 D and I think your 1909 S VDB mint mark looks good. Great camera work helped me be able to say that.

Quote: how much was your membership and do they still have that program going? That is the standard NGC membership deal. If your intent is to submit coins, both PCGS and NGC offer packages which make membership quite attractive and more than able to offset the initial cost. And, EEW, I would be very disappointed if that 1914-D doesn't get a righteous slab. The concentration of "crud" in the tighter areas is somewhat a red flag, but (knowing your lighting practice and the subsequent effect on the image) it looks to me like a gorgeous original "woodie" Lincoln. I rarely see that effect on 1914-D's; they generally lack character. The 1894 is too far gone for pocket-carry to help until you've worn it 20 points lower in grade; it's worth more as-is. I don't do Buffs. I've only ever owned one. Ask somebody else their opinion. Can't wait to see the results.

I do Buffalo's, and that's one of the nicest 3 leggers I've seen-can't tell from the pics if thats rub on the Buffalos head-if not, then an MS coin, and the most valuable of the lot. I do concur that the 14-d has been cleaned, however.

Quote: Nice coins, I see you are in for $32.15 to get them there, how much was your membership and do they still have that program going? NGC Premiere membership is at $109 annual. I should add that they give you 5 submissions with each annual renewal which was only $99. The premiere level looks like it gives you access to everything. they have to offer. I have been using PCGS but now that I look around NGC - I do like their web layout much much better. I should add that when I filled out the submission, there was a charge of $39 ($10 was variety attribution for the buffalo) the other $30 was return postage. I think that no matter who you have submit the coins you are going to have shipping charges. CA Dreaming - I believe the 3 legger will come back XF details - cleaned. Honestly to everyone reading this. I did my homework on these. The 21S is the one I am rooting for. the others.. I dunno, I just sort of feel like I will crack them back out, after photographing of course. I've been able to touch these coins for years, and something seems weird about the thought of seeing them encased in plastic coffins.

These were all well worth submitting and I think your grades are good guesses unless the Morgan is altered. Your S-VDB should make F12 but no higher from what I see. The '21-S does have a great shot at 64 and the '14-D, though technically XF, will probably slab VF30 or 35 due to minor issues. Lastly, I don't submit in Safe-T-Mailers because of concern with the coin sliding around in the flips and possibly falling out of the flips (they break easily when kept folded). I keep the flips flat and put a layer of cardboard between each flip and on the top and bottom then tightly rubber band small groups with several good, strong rubber bands. Just an FYI. Good Luck!

Quote: cost to ship overnight plus insurance --> $32.15 Odd the USPS website says the rates for insurance over $600 is $7.70 plus $1 for every $100 in declared value over $600 up to the limit of $5,000. That should be $7.70 + $44.00 ($5000 - $600 =$4400/100 = $44) So the insurance according to the website should have been $51.70 ............Domestic Insurance Prices Amount for Merchandise Insurance Coverage Desired Price1 $0.01 to $50....................$1.75 $50.01 to $100..................$2.25 $100.01 to $200.................$2.75 $200.01 to $300.................$4.70 $300.01 to $400.................$5.70 $400.01 to $500.................$6.70 $500.01 to $600.................$7.70 $600.01 to $5000................$7.70 plus $1.00 per $100 or fraction thereof over $600 in declared value (maximum liability is $5,000)
