shnn4: First of all welcome to the CCF!
I think I have some good news for you. Your token is listed in Seaby's 'British Tokens and Their Values'. under Hampshire, No. 42, value 175 Pounds in EF condition. My edition was published in 1984. With average inflation of 3.5% over 27 years, 175 Pounds in 1984 values works out to be about 450 Pounds now.
Although I am in Australia, I do have a few Englsh silver tokens, all shillings. They are a fascinating part of British coinage history.
The next question springs to mind immediately: What condition is your silver token in? We of the CCF hope you could post some pictures of it, to be able to attempt a grading for you. Without a grading, no one can really tell you a value.
Should you put it up for sale on
ebay? I would advise you to keep it, and hope that you are not tempted by the money you could get for it. You have kept it this long without knowing what it is, let's hope you continue to keep it and now knowing what it is.
Hampshire has a fond spot in my memory. I stayed with a very nice older couple in Gosport, opposite the Naval Base at Portsmouth. From my bedroom window, I could see HMS Victory in the far distance.
Sorry about the delay in my reply. I am usually a bit quicker than this, but I was feeling a bit 'off' in the last couple of days.
