I am new to site and already need some help. I have some halves(1971, 1972, and 1973). As I am always doing the bank runs, they came from the same bag of 1000.00. They do not have the copper sides as they should. Most are weak strikes with the edge blurring into the lettering. All weighed light but was on a very bad scale. They do not sound like silver. A few have blue toning like silver. I have found some interesting ideas on this site and others what they might be, but most don't seem to fit these coins. My question is did the mint have any foreign coins being minted at this time that may have made their way into the halves press. On strange note I did the tissue test and one passed out of the group, like silver. ?

We would like to have pictures please. While your description may help some with identifying your coins...pictures say a thousand words. Looking forward to seeing pictures. I use photobucket and post links to the album or direct link to the picture. If you do not have a photo editor...check out PhotoScape (free down-loadable photo editor) or Paint.NET (Free online photo editor).

Hope to see pictures as they sound interesting. You never know what you will find in the mint bags. :)

There are a few possibilities on kenn. halfs.
I.E: 1965 90% silver, 1971 40% silver (if any, more likely a 1971-D)
You never know. Does not hurt to check even 1966 kenns.
The weight difference is huge so an easy spot.

Or they are counterfeits? Images would help.

58Buick...where did you get the bag? I can't find banks that have them! How nice it would be not to crack open rolls!
Rest in Peace

Also welcome & I agree-pictures would be a big help.
I can barely get a few rolls of halves from my bank. A bag (not box) seems like a great hunting ground. Good luck.
