The others are coming out later. 8 were released first, these are the ones being found, then another 8 were released in november, but have not made it into circulation. I assume that with 24 million coins for the first 8 going into circulation we have to wait until shops need more 50ps before the next lot come out. Football and one other are coming out much later, half way through next year. Oh and I found this. http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/8..._her_change/"Beckenham woman finds 50 pence piece dated 2011 in her change" "A 25-YEAR-OLD woman got a surprise when she received a 50p coin with next year's date on it." "Tina, who lives in Beckenham, said: "I was quite surprised, it's exciting and obviously quite rare."" Made me laugh, that a local paper would print that a woman found a circulating coin in her change! What next? Woman finds rare £2 coin with queen wearing necklace shock horror?

Must have been a slow day for news. I am surprised that the nechlace £2 coin was not mentioned in the same article.

I have the only one you don't have, and I have no others, I need to shop.
And someone else said they were going to put themselves through university because they had one olympic 50p, ahaha!! Even the rare 20ps would not have done that! But a coin worth up to £3 isn't going to get her out of the pub!

Does anybody know why there are dated 2011? Wouldn't it make more sense for them to be 2012?

I have three fencing coins now, and got one triathlon.
As to why they are 2011, no idea. In september they knew when they were releasing these coins, all I can assume is that is makes some waves and some more interest, and it also stops the need for different dates on all the coins, which caused problems for the 20p a few years back!!
It's all about profit now, and these things save you mone, i'd have thought!

What was the problem with the 20p coins?
I suppose that these coins could be something of a warmup for the Olympics to get people excited when they find one in their change. They may release more coins in 2012 for gold medal wins or something.

In 2008 there were two different designts: 11,900,000 (William Gardner design)which has date on the reverse 81,920,000 (New Matthew Dent design)which has the date on the obverse. Needless to sray, the made a bunch with the old observe and new reverse, thus making a 20 pence which does not have a date on it. Royal Mint estimates that between 50,000 and 200,000 were released into circulation. I never found one but I did try before the news hit the press and my bank actually did not have any 20 pence coins for a few days after the story broke.

Out of interest, did they ever mule a two date 20p? Seems logical, if they can screw it up one way............
