i have what appears to be a gold coin from mexico, however, I don't know anything about it other than my dad purchased it in mexico in 1967. I know there was a boon of fake/replica coins available then, so I think this one may fall into that category. it's 10.5 mm, and sadly I don't have a scale to weigh it. also, the edge is reeded. any info about it would be great.

Not a gold coin, might not even be gold. There were no coins issued by Iturbide (Emperor of Mexico from 1822-1823) that look like that.

It looks gold plate. I've read somewhere these are tokens used in weddings in Mexico.

That is one of a series of small Medals made predominantly in the 1960s but which are still being manufactured. They come in several designs the most common of which is Maximillian. That issue often dated 1865 comes in at least a dozen varieties.

I own several copies of the Iturbide medal which I picked up in a group along with some that have an Aztec motif. While the early ones were 14 K gold, most of the recent copies are far lower in gold content and MANY if not most are gold plated silver. The group I got was half silver and half gold plated. Based on the level of engraving I would believe yours is NOT the earliest emission and it is most likely a silver item.

They are too small to test using SG unless you possess a remarkably accurate scale.

They are curios at best - not a bullion type issue. I bought the group I own for about $1 each.
