sorry all I did was ask a question and then you called me foolish. whats so foolish about getting an unpaid mark on ebay? thought It was worth the try or worth the bid to maybe own it. if not,i could report a fake coin and getting an unpaid item seems worth it to me. I came here before I paid to find out about a coin, how is that foolish?

so what only experts on Morgans are allowed to take a chance on a killer coin I come across some of the best stuff not knowing what it was , but like I said it was worth the chance. lets see; maybe have a sweet coin at a good price, or may get an unpaid item mark on ebay

Maybe "foolish" is too pejorative; how about "risky"? The lure of getting a deal on a rare coin can be very tempting. Fortunately Mantis you got an accurate assessment on this coin before you paid for it and I expect you will be more cautious in the future. I agree you prevented another bidder from getting this fake, although it's extremely likely it will soon resurface on ebay and another gambler will take an ill-advised leap of faith.

Please stop shouting, it is really irritating to read. Quote: I SAW THIS WITH 45 SECONDS LEFT AT A PRICE OF $900 WITH 18 BIDDERS SO I HAD TO JUMP ON IT And that is how you end up with really expensive fake coins. You must do your due diligence first, not try to find out if the coin is genuine after you win the auction. There is no good reason to EVER bid on $1000+ coin from someone with zero FB and a deceptive address(Arlington VA is no where near Hong Kong which probably is the actual locale for this coin). That is just asking to get ripped off. Quote: I STOPPED SOMEONE ELSE FROM GETTING RIPP OFF WHO MIGHT PAY RIGHT AWAY AND TRUST THE SELLER You didn't stop anything, you only prevented the inevitable. Chances are that the seller will register under a different name, wash, rinse, and repeat. Quote: BUT THANKS FOR THE STERN LECTURES TARDS You will not last too long around here with that attitude...

To mantis' credit, he did post here before he sent money for the coin. Kudos for that job well done you saved yourself $900!

Quote: so what only experts on Morgans are allowed to take a chance on a killer coin No, anyone can bid on anything they want. Seeing this coin as an obvious fake doesn't require an expert. You aren't the first person to get caught up like this, and to post about it here. Heck, you aren't the first person in the last week. You are one of the few who did so before actually getting burned.

Yeah I'm not to warm and fuzzy about this one. Might want to rethink who's being more adroit here.

Yep, this is an obvious fake and I barely even know Morgans. It's possible to get killer deals on coins, just not in this way. You have to gain knowledge about the subject and be very patient.

Yeah also, please try to type in coherent sentences...I get the idea but it's hard to understand you.

Quote: I HAVE GOT SWEET DEALS ON HIGH GRADE COINS FROM 1ST TIME SELLERS ON EBAY I would like to see pictures of these deals. Are you sure they were not fakes as well? Speaking as a collector and ebay buyer/seller and not a moderator, I really don't like this type of transaction. You bid on a coin and win it, and THEN you try to determine if it's a fake or not? What if the seller stated that they weren't sure of its authenticity in the listing. Would you have still bid on it and still not paid once you found out it was a fake? I don't get it, but it seems like you have money to burn, so have fun. I for one will not help authenticate coins like this for you in the future unless they are prior to auctions end.

Forty five seconds isn't very long to look at a coin before bidding on it -especially given this particular coin - brings to mind the old adage - if it sounds too good to be true..... I'm assuming, by the title you chose for this thread - "fake 1893 S Morgan dollar from ebay" - that you, yourself, believe it to be a fake, and are only seeking confirmation on what you believe - you have gotten that from some very knowledgable collectors here on the forum. Contact the seller, and try to straighten the situation out - if that doesn't work, report it to ebay, and let them straighten it out. Simple solution.
