That would be a cool experiement, however I have to believe that the way that the general public views money nowadays something like this

1. debit/credit card
2. cash
3. checks

IMHO most people would just rather have five one dollar bills as opposed to having five big clanky coins jingling in their pockets as they walk.

You won't see many of any of these (or didn't) until they get rid of the FRN and replace it with the hundreds of tons of these "Dollar Coins" sitting unwanted and unused in vaults across the nation.
I agree.

I rarely see them in my change, but I have. Most of the time it is because I was able to see inside the cash drawer and ask for them.
Rest in Peace

I use them like any coin - in fact, I'd much rather carry one prez dollar than four quarters or even a dollar bill - and I've seen them in cash registers. I also use them for tips at restaurants and with my barber - she loves them. I'd say that they are slowly gaining acceptance from the mere fact that no one in my travels between Denver and New York has ever questioned me about them. My gut feeling is that the commemorative quarter program, with its wide range of reverse subjects, has pre-conditioned people to accept "different" coins as payment.

No. They may be hard to find in circulation, but they are not rare.

I have a part time job at a gas station, I take in 20 or 30 a week. I don't hand the back out. I buy them and put them in my change jar. At last count I had about 600, I will be paying for my next vacation with them!

But would they complain about one coin and two two dollar bills? because that's what they would have if they stopped the dollar bills. Any time you have two coins they can be exchanged for a two dollar bill. There's never any reason to have more than one coin on you.

yotie looking at the numbers you put up ,it seems to me the mint is minting fewer presidential $ every year except Lincoln mintage's went up a bit.Could it be that the coins aren't being circulated so the mint is having second thoughts about minting them?I hope they(the mint)doesn't stop minting them or lowers the numbers so much that it will be difficult to complete collections and albums.
Aside from that the coins are a great way to learn some American History, geography and events. gasman96

Mint Sets and Proof Sets will have them until the program is over.

I agree. Just look at the Kennedy half dollar as an example. As long as there is significant collector demand, they will keep making them. Worst case they are just in the mint and proof sets, but more likely the bags and rolls will continue, just with smaller mintage numbers.

I just started to pick these up. I never thought I would after the State Quarters program.

Haven't much money for extras lately so I grab some from the bank, keep the best of each pres, and spend the rest.

I'm starting to like them.

Haven't had the ambition for the parks quarters though.

Honestly most folks don't like dollar coins.... from SBA and on, the Feds just can't get us to like them.
If you want to find them (usually Mint State) go to your local Post Office that has a vending machine, and put in a big bill and only by a stamp or two... the change will most likely be in the new dollars. The Post Office is required to use them.
