A new coin shop opened up about six miles from my house about a couple weeks ago. (Definitely not good for my budget but hey what can you say) I stopped by about a week before Christmas just to look around. Great selection decently priced and he cut me a good deal on some proof memorials to fill some holes I was definitely pleased. Here's the kicker. My parents heard me mention the shop and stopped in to pick up a couple of my presents. He sold them a PCGS MS63RD 1909 Lincoln for 26 bucks. My parents know nothing about coins and he could have gotten more than it was worth but sold it to them for under book value. He's made a customer out of me

its good to hear these type of stories when it seems we keep hearing the bad most of the time. Most people really feel compelled to talk about the bad because they feel wronged or saw a wrong happen to someone else. I agree people need to hear when something like this does happen so they can be on their toes, but give a little pat on the back to the good ones as well. That way maybe someone else will do business there as well and help this "honest dealer" stay in business longer. I know some people think if they tell the good it will bring more competition for them on the coins they want but I know I wouldn't be able to do enough business for a coin shop to stay in business myself and if they close you still will not get the coin you want so we need to share the good along with the bad

Yeah sometmies just 1 nice deal can create a loyal customer for life. Hopefully the shop does well and has staying power. I have a shop near me that I am willing to pay their price on most things (even if I can save a bit at another coin shop) because he is super nice and has made me some very nice deals over the last couple of years. I like to support an honest shop that is fair and treats customers with top notch service and care.

Hey Pocket_Change
Whats the name of the shop? Does he have a web business so that others could possibly buy from him too? Maybe we could let people know the names of good coin shops and and if they are on the web or not. So far I am not to impressed with the shop by me and been looking more of the web for my coins.

I generally stick to the online stuff. in my profession, I move too often to really get linked in with a good dealer. Cherish the honest dealer you have found, they can be somewhat of a rarity.

I agree with the pawn shop. The people are generally ignorant about coins, and I find they're laughably overprised or drop the ball on varieties. I've gotten a 16-D (my 1st) and have been able to cruise through their 5 gallon buckets of silver. Not alot of choices, coin shops are 0 and pawnshops are 5.

Don't know if they have an online business yet. I'll ask next time I'm in the shop.

I went in my shop to sell silver a while back and they quoted me 16X face. That was OK to me so I went out to my truck to get the silver and when I came back in they said they would give me 17.5. They cost themselves money and it was only the second time that I had been in the shop. Now if they were not 100 Miles away I would be happier.

You stated the place was new. I suspect the owner is a rether good buisness person. In many buisnesses when new your treated like your a millionair, steady customer or even a friend. Unfortunately in most instances this great, honest, good, frindly atmospher doesn't last. I've seen many stores, buisnesses, shops of all types start out great and slowly turn into normal, everyday, places to avoid. Hopefully your new coin place is not one of the many.

one way to keep the dealer good an honest is to make yourself valuable. I know I can trust my two primary dealers because if I get ripped off, I walk away for good (along with my cash)

Thanks Pocket Change. I would rather help someone that is good to his customers than someone that is not.

What sites online do you shop at? I need to find out the honest sites from the dishonest sites.

I've got a nice dealer down the street. Bought out the bussiness so it's just him now. Small shop but lots of stuff. Honest guy and cuts me great deals on silver bullion and coins! I perfer going to him then to some other dealers. He's one who you have to get to know at first though. The first time I met him, he was one of the meanest people I met. I was about 12 when I met him so he probably just thought I would mess around and be ignorant but once I showed him some of the stuff I knew about and talked down on prices, he became a loyal guy. I love going to his shop and support him in my little town.
