I have recently purchased some rolls of 2009 nickels, dimes, and Half Dollars. The nickels and dimes are still in the rolls from the U.S. mint. What will be the safest way to store these coins? as I plan to keep these for years. I was planning on placing the entire roll inside a coinsafe tube. Will the paper hurt these coins at all over time? Also, for the Kennedy halves, there is a roll of P and D mints still in the unopened box as they arrived from the mint, dated Jan 09. Are these safe to keep as they are, unopened?

At first I thought you got a great car for Christmas when I read your post title I think you would be better off putting them in a coin tube. I had some cent rolls in original paper for 22 years and it kinda toned around the edges a little. John1

I've had some paper rolls from the 70's that look like new...keep them dry...also make sure not to expose them to severe temperature changes.I've also started vacuum packing rolls for long term storage.

1. Submerse in liquid plastic and allow to harden. 2. Send all to me and I'll worry about preserving for you. 3. Spend them so others can find 2009 coins too. 4. Place all in a small safe, encase in concrete, bury in your yard. Way, way back when I was a kid my Dad gave me those brand new Silver looking pennies that just came out. He gave me so many I started to put them in rolls. Eventually I found out about those plastic rolls and put them all in there and they are still there to this day. After well over 60 years now they still look new.

I have been lurking these forums for awhile now, and I already know Carl is the resident clown :P Love your ideas, especially number 2! I think I am going to shove the roll and all down into a plastic tube and forget about them.

I personally like to keep them in the wrappers. I guess I will find out in 20 years if that was a good move or not :)

x78089, Guess I will be with you, I'm leaving in the wrappers hoping today's paper doesn't treat them like the paper 30 years before us did.

I put mine, paper and all, in a tube and then seal the top with tape, and store in a cool dry place.
