Hi,

Please take a look at the pictures of an 1832 bust half. There a huge metal glob on the shield. I noticed that there are no horizontal lines on the shield and so I'm wondering if this happened at the mint.

Anyone ever see something like this before? Any ideas and assistance would be appreciated.

I'm no expert, but it seems someone soldered this onto a belt buckle, display, jewelery or something else. It is smack dab in the middle.

However, there is considerable wear and even pitting on the blob which suggests that what ever it is, it is about as old as the coin. That would suggest it was utilized early in great condition, when this thing was a real beauty.

Yup, dead-center blob 'o solder. It's probably an old jewelry piece. But on the brighter side, it's probably "silver solder".
