Adam, I already addressed that, far right mm position is quite normal for this coin.

I agree with biokemist6 about the mint mark. There were 3 different mint mark locations for the 1893-S quarter including the far right position.

i misinformed you there, I thought you had a half dollar then gave a half dollar pic, then I didnt read bio's post saying that its normal for MM's on Barber quarters to shift. please disregard my post.

40 years in the business, and I bet he doesn't know everything. I had an 1877-s Trade dollar given to me for Christmas last year. It was from my step-moms dad's collection and since he had passed away she gave away his trade, morgan and Peace dollars to my brothers and I. I told my dealer about it and before he even saw it he said, "It's fake." I said that it didn't come off of ebay or from China, that my step-mom's dad had had it for some time before he passed away. "Nope. It's fake." I couldn't convince him. So I brought it in. My coin guy's partner was there, held the Trade dollar, and pronounced it a fake. I said it wasn't. This partner does stamps, not coins. Then my dealer came back in, looked it over and finally confirmed what I knew all along. It was authentic. My dealers been in he business since the 50's. And he doesn't know everything. Have that coin weighed, it looks authentic from the pictures. I was going to say AU-55, however I still can't see any wear so I'm still saying MS60 or a tad bit better. At the worst it is AU-55 if something comes to light that I can't see from the pics. Either way you have a gorgeous coin from a passed away relative. Unless you absolutely need the money I would hold onto it. They aren't making any more of these, you know. Well, except for maybe the Chinese. ;) Great coin. Let us know what it weighs.

Oh, I was writing while you posted! Send that coin to ANACS (save on membership fees) and keep it!

thanks Mitch!...i think there is a coin show coming up in my area this coming month, I'm thinking about bringing it to them and having them take a look at it to see if it is authentic.

I'm 99.9 percent sure it's authentic. It looks right and weighs right. Now the question is for you to figure out what you are going to do with such a great coin. I'm under the impression you wanted it graded? If you send it to ANACS you will get it graded for only the cost of the grading and then it will be authenticated by default. You are killing two birds with one stone. Do you collect coins? If so you have a great start to a Barber collection or a type collection.

mitch, honestly, I inherited all these coins and decided to collect once I got them. Its been 2 years since I've had them and since then decided I'm gonna collect dimes, only dimes of different types. So, id be willing to part with this coin if a buyer came along.

I'm not sure what it would cost you to have it graded by ANACS; maybe $30 or so total, including shipping? (maybe some recent ANACS submitters could give us an accurate cost). No one will cry "Chinese fake" if the coin is in an ANACS holder. It will be much easier to sell and the higher price you will likely realize should cover the grading cost.

wow fenton, thanks! I wish I could get my pics this big...i mean its crazy to me how this coin is about 120 years old, yet, in my coin you can still see the lines inside the stars on the obverse and most of the very fine detail is still there....my pics do not do it justice.
