Heritage charges sales tax for any items sold to bidders in Texas or California. Used to be that we Californians could avoid the tax if the winning bid plus buyers fee topped $1000 but now that minimum is up to $1500. It's been quite a while since I've bid in a Heritage auction.

Your coin looks solid for the grade and it's in an older green-label holder (OGH) which many buyers consider desirable. Maybe you overpaid a bit but if you like the coin you shouldn't have any regrets.

Here's the breakdown. Hammer price $130, Buyer premium $19.50, S&H $8.15, sales tax $14.58, Grand total $172.23. I do think I got a good price on the coin itself and most of you seem to agree. I'm glad to have it. It's a beauty. I know Heritage has a very good rep but I don't think I'll be going back except to use as a price guide. With all those extra charges it increased the price by about a third. The only time I've ever had to pay sales tax is when the seller has been located right here in CA and the shipping from Heritage is definitely exhorbitant.

Ah. Sales tax. Forgot about that. Heritage has a Beverly Hills office; having a physical location in California, they're required to charge Sales Tax on California-bound sales.

I don't remember how they ship the coins but I know USPS rates have gone up. I always send my items usps priority mail with signature confirmation if I sell one on ebay just to be sure the mail person doesn't just leave it at the door, and it costs me close to 8 bucks to ship the item that way. I used to eat some of the charges but with times being as hard as they have been around here I can't afford to do that any longer
