Personally, I wouldn't pay over $75 for it but that's only because I don't care for high grade coins and the premiums that come with them. A good price would probably be about $160.

PCGS lists it at $168, but with a population of over 20k. I am just getting into Morgans, but I feel like you could find a bunch of them at that grade. So with enough searching you could probably get one around $130-$140? So I'll say $150?

Yup, I agree with littleboy that a good price would be in the neighborhood of $160.

I have a MS-67 (that is also in a old PCGS holder) that I think I paid about $600.00 or $700.00 for (can't remember really) but I had a MS-65 that I paid about 100.00 for before I purchased the 67. This was all about 5 years ago when I was building my date/mm set of Morgans so now I probably wouldn't pay more than $140.00 for one now in MS-65 Quote: Did I get taken to the cleaners? Don't know what you paid so can't say. I can tell you that CoinWorld pricing guide they just sent me lists a 1879-S in MS-65 at $150.00 so I think my $140.00 estimate is pretty close

Well the auction closed at $130 but it was $172 out the door from Heritage Auctions. Buyer's premium (buyer's remorse), S&H, plus tax. Sheesh, an extra $42 tacked on the selling price. First and last time I'll be using their site.

I know what your saying SideKick, I think I over Paid for a PF 70, 1990 SAE, w/ buyers prem and s&h it came to $236. I hate to pay buyers prem. for any coins under $200. I wouldn't say I wont be using them anymore. But I will say I wont be buying any coins under 200 on their anymore.

Most closed ebay prices show in the $150 range, so I'd say anything in that general area isn't out of line.

Nothing to kick the dog about (horrible saying I know - bad inside family joke to be explained at a later date and time)

Do you live in TX or does the tax get added anyway? $130 sounds great, then adding 15% for the Buyers Premium makes it $149.50 which still isn't too bad. $22.50 for S&H + tax is hard to swallow though.

Sidekick, I've never brought from Heritage but they're very reputable. The 15% buyer's premium is widely understood and you just need to account for that when you're bidding. 22 bucks for shipping on a $150 coin is quite steep, though. Perhaps they have strict rules about shipping certified/sig required/insurance, etc. They are used to dealing with high end coins.
Truth be told $150 is an approximate median, but I saw many sell for more. I wouldn't say you got a deal, but in no way did you get taken to the cleaners. But with that spot on the rim of the reverse in the 8 O'Clock position, I think it should have gone for a bit less. At the same time it's in an old PCGS "raddler" slab and many people pay small a premium for that reason alone.
You may have buyers remorse, but believe me this one is nothing to beat yourself up over. Many collectors, including myself, have made much worse and more expensive mistakes. I wouldn't even call your case a mistake, you're just regretting your high bid after the fact and it's really not that bad.

Anything $125 - $150 out the door is a fair price for that coin
NOTE: In a retail store setting $200 would not be uncommon those guys have to cover their overhead
