I guess the post office is trying to get their raise where they can. Since their recent postage stamp price increase request was refused, apparently they're going with shipping price increases.

Raising postage rates? Impossible. If you are on Social Security or know people that are they can tell you that they just received a notice from our government stating the cost of living has not icreased since 2008. So this would indicate that since the postal department is part of our government, there has been no increases since 2008.

The government will just say that they edited out the inflation rates on volatile postage rates like they do other volatile things like gasoline and food prices.

I still think the flat rate boxes from USPS are the way to go. UPS dominated for a long time. USPS was very smart to make this move and it has paid off for them big time. I was tired of getting gouged by UPS because they felt they were the only game in town. No longer.

I was talking to a guy yesterday about this. He works at the post office and said they haven't had a cost of living increases in a few years and were just told they will not get one in 2011.

email killed letter volume for post office so they have huge costs divided over fewer and fewer pieces of letter mail. bet the only part of the business growing is packages from online shopping.
