Why was a 1882-O Morgan slabbed MS65 up for auction for $75 with no bidders. NGC and Numismedia list it at $1250, PCGS at $900 and Grey Sheet has it at $1050. Last 2 closings on Heritage were at $1150 and $1035. Checked and re-checked. OK, this is the steal of the century. So.....I bid on it and won at $75 as the only bidder. THEN, I figured it out. The TPG was SGS. Famous for over-grading or so I've read. Now I'm wondering what grade I actually do have. Photos are from the internet as I don't have it in hand yet.

yeah would need bigger pictures to go by. Chances are if it was graded by SGS it may be anywhere from AU-50-MS-63. From the pictures it does look to be Uncirculated but just don't know where it falls at grade wise without better pictures. I can't even see the date in those pictures and if I hadn't read the description I would have thought it was 1891 because the last digit looks nothing like a 2 to me in those pictures

There's a huge drop-off in value as the grade goes down - MS-63 is $52; MS-64 is $104 (Numismedia).
The picture looks like an 1881 to me as well.

It's still a nice coin, but I would doubt the grade until I get it in hand. Also, it does look like an 1881 to me too.

That last digit is a 1 for sure. I am unable to make out the second and third numbers.

I hope the ad was for an 1882 O. Although, if it is MS65, the difference in retail price of an 1881 O is only $250 less than the 1882 0.
Also, an MS 63 is running for around $75.

I scrolled down and am so glad I'm not the only one who sees it as a 1901.. Let us know which one you actually receive..

Here's a litte better shot. Definitely an 82 but afraid pic is still not good enough for any definitive grading. I'll have to wait til I get it in hand.

The second picture is not the same coin (!)
Looks AU and a bit beat up with possible scratches on the lady's cheek.

wow, is this a test, cause that's a different coin and I'm no genius. I would like to see better pics because I'm seeing what fenton is seeing on the obverse. A better look at the breast feathers would be helpful also.
Fenton, if you read this could you tell me how to edit these post?
