This coin I'm posting has been in family for over 40 years so either there's a big coincidence that pro le keep finding these coins after all this time or it's possible that the man made contraption that makes these coins are just as quick to err as we are.

The obverse you show is from 1999 or later, there is a different obverse prior to that year. Looks like somebody ground off one side of the coin and polished it. People sometimes get bored and do crazy things, I have seen several in change over the years.

Sanded coin. The rim is missing from the reverse. No evidence that the proto rim was ever there.

The coin was altered before it was found. Not an error.

I have come across a quarter that has no back to it. It has the marks on the side and is perfectly flat on the one side that has no printing. I'm wondering if I have come across something cool or maybe worth some money, any insight on the quarter would be awesome!

Dconway90 Welcome to CCF!

On future post, make sure you start a new topic for each of your coins. That way it won't get lost in replies for the original and other members will not be confused as to which coin is being discussed.

Your coin has been sanded or smoothed. If you look close you will see thousands of tiny lines where the surface was removed these line with only be on the smoothed side. If you weigh your coin it should also come in under weight.

Divinecoins welcome to you, too!

On future post, make sure you start a new topic for each of your coins. We now have several one sided coins in this topic and it's getting kind of hard to follow.

People modify coins all the time. Some are for modified for a purpose and some just because someone is bored. Thousands of " Buffalo nickels" have been carved over the years and many artist are carving new "Hobo" coins today. I have an 1847 Large Cent that was set in the top of a pocket watch. The reverse is smooth and the diameter is slightly reduced. The watch died and I removed the coin. It's been in my collection for 25 years, but I know it's worthless. I'd hate to have someone find my coin and think it was an error, but it could happen.
