Me and a good friend were going through some coins he had set aside back in the 1980's and weren't finding anything very good until this coin popped out. Is it unusual to find both dies cracked on the same coin?
The obverse and reverse dies tend to wear out and weaken at slightly different rates so you will not usually find one with cracks on both sides. However, a strong die clash can cause both dies to crack when they collide. Notice the heavy die polish on the obverse and reverse from removing the clash marks and you can also see the remaining portion of the clash inside the Memorial bays.
