Seems to be around one in every 75-100 coins
Bought 10 rolls today found 5 wheats last night 10 rolls found 7 wheats
Most 40-58 with a well worn 1918 and 1919 in the mix
copper cents 1981-pre ( dont fuss with 82's ) Seem to be 36 out of of 100 in the first 10 rolls
41 out of 100 in the second 10 rolls
So I'm guessing - 35% - 40% in my area
These were brinks plastic shurnk wrap rolls
also one cadian in the mix Edited by coppertop5150 01/06/2011 7:10 pm

Perhaps a larger sample size would give a clearer picture? I mean, what if you just got lucky with your 10 rolls?

We've got a lot of data over on the Lincoln Roll finds if you want to get a clearer picture.

Per box I averaged roughly 8-12 wheats, and copper I was not keeping tabs on. I do have some plastic containers filled to the brim with copper though, so it was a nice amount of copper.

I thought it seemed high , was not sure if it was " just luck " or what others come across as well.
It was 20 roll total 10 yesterday ,10 today. Looking at the rolls from the side you can see a mixture through the plastic or dark brown ad shiney copper, I Was hoping for customer rolls but they don't even take them anymore, the bank just says unroll dump them in the machine and bring the paper counted total to the window for a checking deposit
I suspect they were rolled atleast last year or early 2010 becuase not one 2010 was in the mixture just a few linc log cabin and wood chopper cents, but who knows they might have been rolled more recent

But not so good . its only 1-165 wheats this time.

1857 was the last year of pure copper cents. Everything since then has been 88Cu/12Ni, bronze, or brass. 1982 was the last year of majority copper cents for circulation.

I was sorting pennies for copper for 2 years. I saved a little over a half ton, about $1500 or so. In that time, I found that in the Detroit Metro area, that the copper percentages were running around 29-30%. About 2% of the circulating pennies were Canadian. About 80% of them copper. The mix of the 3.24 gram pre '80, the 2.8 gram '80-'81, and the 2.5 gram post '82 was about 40-20-40%. The 1982's were about 75% copper. With few exceptions, I would usually get at least 10-12 wheats a box. Of course your results will vary from area to area.

Right now, I am averaging 0.31% for wheats and 14.66% for copper. That's from searching only 1,500 rolls though. 75,000 coins is not a very large sample - although those percentages are holding fairly steady.

My high school had a penny challenge so I bought $50 in pennies and dumped them all in the box but first I checked them all.
Percentage .5% wheats .125% canadian 1% S-mint 3% 2009 pennies did not check for copper and zinc/copper pennies though. I had to go through all these in about 4 hours. but of course I got my sister and brother to help out and what was even better is that I didnt have to reroll them. I would go through pennies more often if I didnt have to reroll them.
