Hawk, I just think the new structure will be more conducive but you are correct, whatever rhetorical comments were said by 3 or 4 posters never stopped me from collecting either.

Well I guess Koin Hunter already has one... now that we both stated the obvious...
Ask a thousand people what that coin represents. 100 years of Parks Canada or Parks will never be an answer. It is trying so hard to convey/elicit emotion you wouldn't know what it is about unless someone told you. I do like some "collector" coins, just not in this style.

yes Realpenny...I also read the article...and the Mints comments on why they went with this design...and yes it probably wasn't the best choice to represent 1oo yrs of Parks Canada...But personally I still liked the design..and this time I put History aside and bought what my eye liked...

I think the whole point of the article is that the coin should have conveyed Parks Canada 100th year. Putting an "artsy" image on that doesn't conveyor that is missing the boat. If the Mint wants to sell "artsy" coins then make an "artsy" line and sell it as such.

Once again, another great picture canadian_coins, and perfect timing too! I picked one up off ebay last week ($68.95) to round out my Commemorative Silver Dollar collection. It should be here on Tuesday or Wednesday.

That is a great picture C_C. Are you scanning? If so, could you provide how you have your scanner set up? Do you just crop the image or do you correct them (image) afterward?

On this one I used my old HP C618 and took several shots outside under the tree (75F today, nice!). I use the close-up mode - no flash, no direct sun light. The problem with proof set is the reflection caused by the removable lens, so you have to watch for that.
Here I used indirect lighting from the bottom by turning the set upside down. I wanted to give the impression that the person looks at something magical, some kind of energy.
Using GIMP, post processing: cropping + heavy saturation to bring out the gold, contrast and brightness, and that's it. Make sure your lens are SUPER clean!

Thank you for you good words. It is a lot of work but I find that experimenting with coins and various rendering gives a unique touch.

^^^ Though I use the username realpenny, 5 cent decimal coins is what I am really into and collect. That image is so superb. The art (rabbit) really stands out on a black field like that and makes you focus on it. I guess a collector wanting to buy it would want to see the field though. That picture though is great and the way you did it really brings out the subject. It is an interesting effect and different way to see the coin. I see art on art on art. :P

Thanks Penny,
This particular coin was from a specimen set I got at an action years ago. All the coins in that set were tarnished but the nickel was flawless. So here it is. On this image I used a side lamp to shine behind the animal, while sun light is facing it.
It gives the impression that the poor thing is rushing to get away from a fire...

--- Canadian_coins ---You definitely have a talent that most, me included would love to have. ---The picture of the 1967 rabbit is outstandingly beautiful, real nice touch with your signature symbol, credit were credit is due. I really like nickels...so good pic! And the commemorative dollar is beautiful too, but not to be negative to point out a observation, the rabbit will increase in value were as the RCM products they put out, don't! ---But, will say, they hold a stable value, from what I've noticed. I would have to agree that it is mostly commercial, IMO. ---Please don't get me wrong as you see it through those eye's and your given talent, value is less important! ---We all collect what we like and for our own reasons and that's that. --- These coins are beautiful works of Art and beauty is in the beholder, just as Art! and talent!--- TwoCentsworth,---Good observation, I would not have picked up on the birds, they get you with the beauty first, that's marketing eh!--- Which about says it all and that's my observation!

That is fantastic, CC. I've seen a million rabbit nickels before, but never really paid that much attention to the detail of the eye, inner ear, nose and mouth. What you have captured is what the artist wanted people to see.
