Seems that the RCM's new 2011 commemorative silver dollar is getting some bad press. It celebrates our national parks and and the endangered species living in them. Unfortunately, only two of the 4 species on the coins are actually found in our national parks. See link for full article. http://www.vancouversun.com/travel/...8/story.htmlpretty coin otherwise

Interesting article.
Who knows... The other two species may eventually end up in the parks one day... Maybe Luc Normandin is a visionary.
Can't wait to get my sample anyway.

"But the southern maidenhair fern is found in only one place in Canada: The Fairmont Hot Springs resort in eastern British Columbia. Called "southern" for a reason, the delicate fern grows like a weed in the southwestern United States, where it's not endangered at all."
That part makes my face confused.

When you pump out dozens of designs each and every year in the name of bigger profits, not every design can be outstanding. Or unique. Or factually accurate ;)

1cent, I agree with you the RCM's production goals may be unsustainable. But lowering output could ultimately result in workforce reduction, reduced revenues and penalize the few who care to collect what they produce. Despite the RCM's many shortfalls, one can't argue that they simply try to satisfy their clientele, which urges them to constantly reinvent themselves and come up with new products. This is a real commercial reality that is common to many businesses. Ultimately, it is the buyers' responsibility to keep their wallet shut.

Thanks for the article. I collect these types of coins more for the artwork than money or investments. I also collect nature art. An artist who gets paid very good money and doesn't do research shorts the client ( RCM) and anyone who would buy the coin. The design is too airy and mystical and now it shows more than ever. To "celebrate" our park system and have it contain images that have nothing to do with a park is pretty sad. Poor design, poor artwork, poor research, poor fact checking... ridicule is right on the mark. Thanks again for posting TwoCentsWorth.

Hey Koin Hunter, I'm doing well.............keeping busy looking for more of that NCLT that no one wants to buy I think there are actually two options to get this to coin sell out; 1 find 24998 more collectors, or 2 find 1 collector with more money than brains

canadian_coins, why do you feel it's OK to collect RCM coins now, because of the new forum structure? I honestly couldn't care less if I was the only one who found some of these coins (Commemorative Dollars, Effigies of Royalty, Crystal Coins etc.) appealing, I would still collect them because I like them. Koin Hunter, I think we'll have to post some updated pics of our collections, even if it's just to annoy some of the haters on the forum
