This is really funny. I am by no means one of the top collectors in the world but... I am currently the top ranked all time finest set on PCGS for complete sets - proof nickels - 1866 to current. Darn near anyone can top it if they wanted to add their set but for this momment I am the best. http://www.pcgs.com/new_set_registr...mberofsets=5

I'm curious...would you mind divulging how much a comparable set like yours would cost to put together today?

Not at all. The proof nickel set I have is worth about $300 +/-

Nice...how long has it taken you to find those coins? It's got to be a good feeling to hold the all time finest registry set in something!

It took me about a year of actually looking for them. The funny thing about it is that I dont have that great a set. It just so happens that the people with REAL nickel sets haven't registered them under that catagory. They have them spread out in different sets. I cant believe I have a higher ranking set then TAC and Bear's collections. Those two are serious collectors of PCGS slabs.
Since my goal is to get a complete US set(within reason) in my lifetime, I thought I should register what I have now and see whats next.

I know what you mean, I only have a couple complete sets and they are my pride and joy. None of my sets on PCGS are complete but I still registered them and add coins as I get them.

I know how it feels, I had the #1 B1 Reverse 1878 Morgans a few months ago and someone pulled a major score out of his rearend and passed me, but now I am sitting on 4 coins that has got to be attributed by PCGS before I add them to my collection that will put me about 3000 points ahead of the current leader. Either way congrats on the collection and hopefully it will stay up there awhile. Maybe there is only 3 people that will ever compete in that set and you will stay one step ahead of the rest

Best of luck on getting your set back up on top. I hope to keep up on them. It might not be that hard. There are a ton of easy to find dates I can pick up for just a few bucks. Especially if I dont push it for top grades. If I go one or two grades down I can make a very nice set for alot cheaper. 99 percent of the people out there cant tell the difference between ms67 and ms69 anyway. Me included.

I can see the headline: Ferret Lord nickel collection to be auctioned off by Heritage, finest assembled.
