Mine was an 1851 gold dollar and an 1884cc morgan that due to unforseen circumstances I had to(sniff) let go.(sob!!) I didnt even get a photo (howl!!!)the gold dollar was au58 and the cc was ms60.So (sigh) there is my story and if yours is too painful to share I will understand. yours sadly,John

If I was sorry to see something go it would have been the 4 Maple Leaf bullion coins I sold off to a dealer for some cashola I needed. I wished I had them back now.

I've got more than 55 years (not counting the first six) of loved and lost memories, loves, and coins. Certain coins come to mind: also an 1851 (IIRC) gold dollar; an 1892 Coumbian Exposition; an 1889-CC Morgan I bought with a large lot of Morgans (it had been cleaned, but otherwise was in XF condition, so I sold it as such; shudda have it slabbed by ANACS); an 1863 3-cent piece; and a 1914 Barber half. These are only a sample of coins which came and went for one reason or another, each for which I kick myself because I cudda done better, e.g. gotten them slabbed before sale or kept them.

My most loved/lost was my first Gold 1 oz ML that I received back in the 80's. I sold it years ago for $ too and was sad that I did it ever since BUT, this year I began to replace it many times over and am so glad that I did!
The other love/lost was my Mom's 1909S VDB that she had for years. She "lost" it to an unscrupulous collector that she sold some of her coins to and he pocketed it in the exchange. She could never prove it...just that it was gone forever after he left.

1875 S 20 cent piece XF. Easy enough to replace I guess. 100 BU silver eagles for each year from 1986, 87, 88, and 89. (when silver was at about 7 bucks/oz. (Oh, the pain!) Impaired Barber quarter proof. Don't remember the year. The list goes on, but I need to call my therapist... Debbie, so sad about the S-VDB.

Thanks everyone! It truly is a sad loss. The guy purchased almost all of my Mom's key dates and semi-keys and then did that. I was thinking that maybe she had misplaced it but, I've looked in every one of her rolls and rolls of coins and all of her hidey holes and it's just not here anymore. My only solace in all of this is that the guy will get his just "rewards" someday. Thanks again!
adobero - 100 BU eagles at $7.00/oz. That's pain!

Fortunately, I've never been in a situation like the ones you guys have been in. I feel your pain, I really do. dsking, that guy's got some nerve, stealing that coin from your mom! I've never sold any of my coins, but may have to when it comes time to feed my growing addiction to bust coinage!

With apologies to Willie Nelson. And to the forum. But I'm a hostage to temptation for this topic... To all the coins I've loved before Lincolns, Morgans, many more I'm glad they came along I dedicate this song To all the coins I've loved before. To all the coins I once caressed And may I say I've held the best Eighty-seven six o'er O I owe a lot I know To all the coins I've loved before. The changing grades are always lowing And every time I try to play The grading standards continue lowing And they just carry me away. To all the cents who shared my life Who now are someone else's strife I'm glad they came along I dedicate this song To all the coins I've loved before. To all the coins who cared for me Who filled my albums with ecstasy They live within my heart I'll always be a part Of all the coins I've loved before. The changing grades are always lowing And every time I try to play The grading standards continue lowing And they just carry me away. To all the coins we've loved before Gaudens, Bust Halves, many more We're glad they came along We dedicate this song To all the coins we've loved before. To all the coins we've loved before Walkers, Liberties, and more We're glad they came along We dedicate this song To all the coins we've loved before.

Seems like with all my collectibles, and other things, I lost something I wish I had back.
Regarding my autographed picture collection, I have (had) a picture of Harry S. Truman, enscribed to me personally. I can't find it.
Regarding my Presidential Campaign Button collection, two McKinley and one Taft button disappeared from my frame, never to be seen again.
Not a collectible as such, but my 1968 custom-made Ford Mustang Convertible. Sold it for $1600 in 1971. How I would love to have it sitting in my garage now.
Coins. Well, the only rare coin I ever found in circulation was a 1932 D quarter, probably VF. Hopefully I have it somewhere, but I am currently unable to find it.

To Gary-- I had an identical "missing items" episode in my life as I was finishing my first marriage after (only) 14 months back in 1981. Seems that a lot of the things I had owned much of my life had become "community property" and my soon-to-be-ex snuck back into the house and snarfed them up, claiming them as her share of the community property. As a result, I lost a lot of coins (see partial list in earlier post), none particularly valuable, along with all my Boy Scout T-shirts with most of my BSA neckerchiefs, my beloved bright red wool Philmont Jacket, all the crystal, my baby teaspoon, almost all my Corelleware china (she left me one plate, one bowl, and one cup), several of my late grandmother's ironstone serving dishes, an ex-girlfriend's dishwasher, a mantle clock from an uncle, and the last of my innocence. She tried to keep the house, but I had built it before I met her. She didn't try to keep all the bills which she had built up.
