I would like to get some opinions regarding the Australian Silver Kangaroo $1 Bullion Coins. I just completed a full set (1993-2011) and am very proud of them. Plus I got the 2009 and 2010 "Kangaroo at Sunset" coins to go along with the regular series. (SPENDY) Love em! I think they are gorgeous!

It Seems to me though that they are unpopular. I never see any articles or here about anyone talking about them. I here alot about the Canadian Silver Wolf with its "only 1 million minted" talk, but some of these Kangaroos only have a mintage of 6 or 8 thousand and others up to 73 thousand. There seems to be so much attention towards the Kookaburras and Koalas. Are the Kangaroos ever going to catch on?

I think you are understating the Roos popularity. Congratulations on the set. Very nice set indeed. Check out APMEX. You will find that you can still buy most(not all), of the previous years of Kooks and Koalas. The Roos are practically sold out across the board. The Koala series has not been around as long, and it's the new, how item, that attracts buyers at first, such as the wolf.

Hold them and be proud you have them all, you will be rewarded.

Silver kangaroos have their fans in Australia, just as Lincoln Wheat Cents have their fans in the U.S.

Because the Australian population is 20 times smaller than the U.S. one, so the market for silver Kangaroos in Australia is smaller then the U.S. market is for silver rounds. I think that explains the lower mintage numbers for Australian silver. Nevertheless, American bullion silver is found in Australia, and so I guess some Oz bullion silver is found in America.

I am in the US and I am most proud of my Kangaroos.
I have them encapsulated and carded and in proofs. They are one of the most attractive sets available and at reasonable prices.

Don't talk about them if you do others will want them and drive the prices up.

There is a specific Australian coin I used to buy below bullion price a number of years ago - I started a thread and within weeks the coin was selling for more than double what I had been paying for it.

Love my Australian Coins but

once they become popular, they are harder to get.
Don't even get me started on PNC's They are even nicer.

Thanks everyone for your opinions and support. I have every intention of holding on to this set. It was so much fun putting it together! I often take it out and re-read the information on all the cards they are attached to and just sit and admire them. The Kangaroos are one of two "Crown Jewels" in my collection, the other being a full set of Kooks with the earlier years having a lite rose colored tone on the outer perimeter. Thanks again for your help!
