Hey guys, I just won an auction that included a un-opened "bank roll" of 1974-S cents. It was a bonus in the auction. I wasn't bidding on that, though. It would a NICE bonus if they end up being uncirculated. But since it will be coming my way, what will be the value if they are uncirculated? And, I've been looking at the difference between the two types but can't find a value for them or are they the same? Thanks again for helping me increase my knowledge.

I asked this question awhile back.

Copper coins told me . The thick date type II and thin date type I 1974-S are both common and one is not worth more then the other.
How ever the thick date with the blobby S seems to show up less in circulation

Funny but coppertop and I discussed this yesterday...if there is a value difference, it has not been evident yet.

I just got a reply that the roll was bought in 1974 personally buy the seller. I guess I'll have to wait and see. Should I open it up?

CDN ask for a BU roll is $5, no value difference between the two types since they are roughly equal in numbers and there is so little interest in them(not even listed in the Red Book).

A note from coppercoins regarding the S mintmark-

Quote:
Another thing that may help with 1974S business strike cents is that all known examples of large date cents have the type 1 (small) mintmark. All small date examples known have the type 2 (large) mintmark. This is only true with business strike S-mint cents The proof cents are known with both mintmarks.

Something else that should be mentioned is that the large and small date cents from 1974 to my knowledge have never been noted as "type 1" or "type 2", but if they were, the large date would be the type 1 since it was the first of the two different varieties used.

The link below is the page that I published regarding the two different date sizes.

I was referring to the tpe of "S" used. I read it somewhere. I've read a price of $10 on a MS65....so I thought these were a decent addition to the auction that I won. Doesn't seem to be alot of interest in these. Thanks for the info!

The page I posted a link to does show the two different mintmark styles, and both are known on the proofs. There is little to no market for them because they are both easy to find.
