I'll go one step further and say it's a cast copy. Still running. I will report as well.

i agree.......it looks like it might be an altered '17......actually, the sfc color reminds me of the way the fake morgans look. And the head should be up more against the beads, shouldn't it?

I won't go as far as insisting it is fake or altered, but something is def up with that 6...

Well, it's still up. I guess someone will find out the hard way. It's amazing he has a money back policy.

All I can say is that he may be ignorant, but I don't believe he's dishonest. He posted our comments and let the cards fall where they may.He has a return policy, but if the buyer chooses to believe otherwise,it's his money. After all, didn't somebody buy a toasted cheese sandwich for like 20K on ebay a few years ago ?

I think he knows exactly what he's doing. He's either being dishonestly honest or honestly dishonest in an attempt to get a couple grand for a coin which, if it were real, might get $10,000 or more.
Rest in Peace

to his credit, at least he is posting all the folks questioning the authenticity on his listing and is asking for more information on the diagnostics. When I have access to ebay again, I will inform him as to "why" it is fake. He may be purposely deceptive, but I'd give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe he just doesn't know the difference and is stubbornly refusing to accept that it's fake. Good catch Nod!

weerdsteve, you may be right...but aren't the buyers at the very least being greedy...hoping to get something too good to be true ? I bid on some questionable auctions when they have a return policy..it's a calculate risked.

That is a point frequently overlooked when ripping on sellers, some bidders just have more money than brains, aka bidiots, especially when the photos tell you all you need to know.

I don't know much but I looked at the other thread and the head makes it look to me like a fake too. I think a cast copy could be right also.
I have 5 SLQ with no dates and I was going to sell them for silver now I have to take a closer look. Good post.

Maineman750 - You say "greedy" others say "opportunistic". There's also the possibility that the winning bidder simply intends to quickly "flip" it for more $, whether it's real or not. (And it's NOT.) Personally, I think that most of the bidders for this item are just under-informed and headed for headaches.

Yes weerdsteev...but we could say the same about the seller...I think Biokemist summed it up nicely.
One thing we should all keep in mind is that the seller has no clue as to our motives, nor does he know who we are, or if he is getting an expert opinion, etc.

Final settlement:

Quote:
Ladies and Gentlemen, due to all the "constructive critizism" reguarding this coin; I am going to end the auction early tommorrow. I will then send the coin off to be offically graded and re-post the item when it returns.

I would rather be sure than risk the history that I have built up on ebay.

Thank all of you for your comments and suggestions.

Look for this coin to be re-listed.......

Another fine save for the CCF! Nice job everyone!
