I have in my new collection a couple 1922peace dollars, well more than that but two I have been told to ask about. so here it is.
What could be the value of a, 1922 S, uncirculated, ( in a holder at the bottom of the sock drawer since gifted in 1945, it came in the holder)
and a 1922 that has been circulated but in excellent condition with a little tone to it. It's not perfect, a little dirty but not marked up or anything, just was used a little. The thing I'm supposed to ask about is, could it be fake because although to me, it's perfect in design and all, but it has a couple small gouges in it, like a really small tiger swiped at it while it was wet, LOL. BUT besides that, it's ... bigger. or the head seems up a little higher? and the eagle on the back does too, so we wondered if it could be counterfeit ? I sure wish I could post the picture.
Was there a lot of Counter fitting this year, OH it has no mint mark so it's Philly I've been taught, right?

Probably authentic here is a good price guide. From your description, I would assume your coins are in "extremely fine" or EF condition:

For what a coin dealer should pay you, multiply these prices by about .7. This is a retail price guide not wholesale.

( no mint mark = Philadelphia = P)

thanks. I have been told that the uncirc is a pretty good one, and the other, I was worried that someone had tried to make it a proof. I've read about that, and it looks off to me. Gosh, I wish I could post pictures! hopefully this weekend I'll get help to figure all that out.I'm not great on the internet, but if you ever have a question about WORD, I'm your girl, LOL.
I would like to get them all graded I think, is that expensive? I can't find out how to go about it really. I'm probably looking in the wrong place. So anxious for the books I ordered to come.

Welcome Sunny in NC!
Grading service fees start at around $18 per coin and you have to pay to ship the coins both ways which can easily add another $15 to $30 to your total order. IMO it would not be worth having these coins graded, unless that 1922-S is actually in very choice Uncirculated condition. If it could realistically make MS-64 or better (on the 1-70 grading scale) it would be a grading candidate since it would then be worth around $200 retail.

In circulated condition your coins are worth $22 or so each. It's unlikely they are counterfeit but we'd love to see pictures. Please post some if you can!

yes, the 22 S is perfect. bright, and in it's original little hard plastic case. If you're interested, here is the history. When he returned from WW2, my Father and Mom bought a tavern in Southern IL. The Kentucky Brand whiskey distributor came around at Xmas with a sack of silver dollars , each one in its own case. He let each bar owner reach in and pick one as a thank you at Xmas. This dollar has always been in it's little case, but resided in a cotton sock , with a few others, until he sold the Tavern in 1951. He moved to Chicago, and from that point on it's been in a safety deposit box . the collection has been added to, but the dollar has NEVER been out of it's case because you can open either side to see it without touching the coin.
There is one pin point of dark dot on the front. That's it.
I have no intention of selling anything at this point, but do think they should probably be insured. hence the question.
