There are no eight tailfeather Morgan dollars in the years 1879-1904 and 1921. Eight tail feather coins are only found in 1878 Philadelphia mint issue coins.

ok then I counted 7 tail feathers on the coin so I did ok for $32.00?

and the tail feathers are just that, the feathers on the tail of the eagle. they are not on the arrow, they are what you see under the arrow and olive branch and feet sticking down right above the bow in the center of the wreath

So I did good 7 feathers. Wasn't sure looked like something maybe between branch & arrows.

Saints & LSU! Great help Thanks,studying till my brain hurts but Lovin every minute.I'm ok with books but better hands on so to speak. Is there anyone within 100 miles that would be willing to take a rookie (51) under their wing. I would Love to be able to pass on what I learn here to my son so he can learn and pass it down. I love this, the wife thinks I'm crazy because I spend all my time looking at Morgans.

I seem to remember seeing a Morgan with the stars etc... punched into the Morgan, am I on info overload or was this a figment of my imagination?

There have been only four coin shops in Louisiana I have purchased from: Red River Rarities in Pineville, Coin and Treasure in Lafayette, Louisiana Gold in Baton Rouge and Southern Coins in Metairie. Geaux Tigers!

I just bought my first 1878 8TF, also I think a 1879/78 reverse in fair shape, hope I made a good investment. paid under $100. for both. I can learn a lot by comparison my 2nd best tool.

Quote: hope I made a good investment As a beginner I would read information about the Morgan dollars. I would suggest you learn to grade (as best as you can) so that you do not over spend for dollars that are cleaned, whizzed, artificially toned, scratched, over graded or counterfeit.
