Hi guys,

I am new to coin collecting and have come across this 1948 penny. The 8 is not right and am wondering if this kind of thing is common and what might have caused it to look like this.

That's damage form a coin roller machine.

Coin wrapper damage. The damage is always parallel to the rim.
