Johnstac had a post about auction sites and I was wondering what some of you folks could tell me about any Ecrater experiences you may have had.

I'm pretty happy with my ecrater store. The only problem I have with it is the inventory control, if a buyer doesn't pay with Paypal immediately after they place the order the items stay available for sale until I (the seller) go in and remove them. I actually had 2 people try to buy the same coin on the same night after I went to bed.

Other then that it's been great! There are no selling fees at all but if you accept Paypal or Google checkout you still have their fees. You don't have anywhere near as many buyers there as you do on ebay but it seems to be growing.

The feedback system is a little unusual. The buyer has no feedback no matter what, buyers don't even have to register with ecrater or create a username. Sellers can only get feedback from a buyer if they pay with Paypal right after they place their order. I'm sure that was done to keep sellers from giving themselves bogus feedback.

feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions and I will be glad to help if I can. I know there are several others here on CCF with an ecrater store that I've had to pester a few times too...

Thanks bman...the reason I was asking is that I have heard many talk about their fees at ebay and Paypal and them reaching 15%. AT some point you would think this would stifle business.I know of an ebay seller (not coins) who thought she was making a bunch of money because she was selling hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars worth of goods a month. however, when she actually did a profit analysis she discovered that she wasn't making enough to spend the time on it.

I gave up on ebay a couple of years ago, the only way I would use them again would be to get rid of stuff I just don't want and am not conserned about making a profit ot taking a loss on.

This is an interesting discussion for me. Unlike a lot of posters seem to be, we have been quite happy with ebay, although we have about 9,000 coins listed at any given time, so obviously reduced fees and a more seller friendly site would be great, is there enough buyers on ecrater, (or any other site someone could suggest), to justify moving there, or even dabbling in it at this point?
