cconrad Valued Member United States 128 Posts	Posted 01/12/2011 3:38 pm I found this the other day and at first glance I thought it was damaged by a rolling machine, but after I looked more closely at it I don't think it was. The line going through "IN GOD" looks to be incuse (I hope I get my terminology correct), and the line going through "TRUST" looks to be relief. I was justed wandering if this is the same thing as the 2009 Proof State Quarter that was posted on here, or something different. Any help would be appreciated. Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 01/12/2011 4:18 pm It appears to be a die dent. Incuse on the die raised on the coin. I save them. They are nice when they are large like yours. Unlike a die gouge, a dent is longer and continuous. Report this Post to the Staff

The line running through IN G is probably also a die dent, although a die gouge is also possible. I suspect the incuse line represents a sharp pressure ridge.
