Posting SCANS of a 1955 Franklin half. Im' aware that scans leave alot to be desired when it comes to trying to grade a coin, but that's the best I've got for now. A brief description: The coin does have full bell lines, and appears to have full mint luster, in the sunlight it runs completely across Ben on the obverse, and the Liberty Bell on the reverse. Nice coin, but I know squat about grading anything that isn't circulated, and very little about the ones that are. What do you think? The scans are a little small for me to see much from them. What resolution are you scanning at? What is the size of scan you are taking also? I usually scan at 1200 dpi and my area is usually close to the size of the coin which is usually 2 in. x 2 in. or smaller depending on the size of the coin. I don't use the full scan bed.

Irishraider - man! I know even less about computers and attachments than I do about coin collecting, so all you asked is greek to me. I just put the coin on there, squeeze the box down to the size of the coin, and shoot. My scanner is part of the printer/scanner was a freebie from DELL when I bought this computer a couple of years ago - it's a AIO920, and that's about all I can tell you about it. I ran into this on another post with a scan of a different coin - this is two in a row. I think I'm just gonna hold off on posting pictures until I can get enough saved up to get me a decent camera. Thanks.

Okay, these are at 600 dpi - any better? I didn't even know abnout dpi and such until some of the forum members walked me through the steps. Being an old dumb country boy has it's drawbacks. Image: 1955 Franklin.jpg58.91 KB Image: 1955 Franklin Rev.jpg63.63 KB

There you go bud, you got it now. Those are great scans. Good job!
I would put this Franklin in about MS-62 grade with a FBL attribute. It has alot of dings and abrasions but should still come in at that grade. Nice looking coin.

Looks like you have a normal 1955. There is also the "Bugs Bunny" variety for this date. Franklin looks like he has buck teeth- it was a mark caused by a die clash.

Thanks everybody. Yes biokemist6, I'm aware that there is a bugs bunny 1955 Franklin - just don't have one yet. I do have a complete set of Franklins, but I haven't started on the proofs yet. Still lacking 7 of the proof ASE's, and, when I've completed that set, I think I may concentrate on the proof Franklin halves. Providing something else doesn't take my fancy in between.

madhandles761991 - It only took a few months - started the set in September of last year, and had it completed before the end of the year. I tend to concentrate on a particular coin until I've a complete set, or, at least, the ones that are available within my price range. For the most part, they aren't high-priced, and they seem to be readily available - right now. Don't know where they'll go in a couple of years. I would point out that most of my Franklins are in circulated condition - probably why I was able to complete the set as quick as I did.
