I'm looking to find out if someone can help me with a grade and value on this coin. My most current book is about 10 years old. Thanks, Karrlot

my Charlton Standard Catalogue of 2009, 63rd Edition goes like this, for grades, mintage: 1,200,000, G4-$15.00, VG8-$30.00, F12-$55.00, VF20-$110.00, EF40-$175.00, AU50-$275.00. Using the Standard Grading Guide of Charlton/Willey, my guess would be VF-20. Nice coin. I am trying to locate a 2011 Catalogue.

try ebay to get a value indicator.. Grade= F15 in the US VF30 BUT... there will be a huge difference if the coin is certified...

I was wanting to fill some holes, so I went to a dealer and she let me look through a box of Canadian that she was going to send off to be melted. I had my list of what I had, so I was picking up anything that would fill holes. She sold me a bunch of coins for the silver spot, so I figure I paid about $.50-.75 for this. I didn't know it was a good date until I got home and looked it up.
I'm very happy with this!

Sounds like a great deal!. However I do have one question: Wouldn't it be illegal for your dealer to send off coins for melting? I thought this was against the law. It's the second time this week I hear talk of this so I'm terribly curious.

There is a law against Smelting Circulating coins in the U.S. More specifically our nickel and penny. There is no law against smelting Pre-1965 U.S. silver coins, nor any foreign coins. I see some heavy scratch marks in the cleaner areas indicating harsh cleaning there.

I saw those too in the scan, but didn't notice them when looking at the coin. The contrast in the scan is a lot sharper than the actual coin. In hand the dark isn't nearly as dark as the scan, it is not black, it is grey than black. It looks a lot more normal in hand. I thought maybe it was just wear.

Yes, it has been cleaned, but still, a very nice 'semi-key' date in just VG worth around $40.00..

I see VG-20 maybe even F-12 It is always difficult for me to settle on a final grade without actually having the coin in hand for a proper examination.

I rate it a VF - there is detail in the braid below the ear and also in her hair. Both of these traits in my book are indicators of VF condition.

It's a very nice pick-up for the price. Extremely desirable!
