Here are few favorites from my collection that remind me why collecting die varieties is so interesting. For me it's not just about collecting, but the hunt, the research, and analysis keeps me fascinated in the hobby. Great Britain, Half-Farthing with repunched E/N in REGINA. I ran across this coin in an antique shop, only noticing the repunched legend later under magnification. Australia 1933/1932 Penny--thanks Sean! In this overdate, I believe the whole date was rehubbed, not just the last digit. This 1938 Iceland 1 Eyrir shows dramatic repunching with a large 3/small 3 and 8/8. Thanks Tony! Sweden 5 Ã-re 1858/7 Sweden 1 Ã-re 1912/1 Sweden 2 Ã-re 1906/5 Sweden 2 Ã-re 1875/74: Peru ½ Dinero 1909/7: Uruguay 1869 4 Centisimos DDO--and the earliest known trails die! Belgium 2c 1919/4 A common, but nice overdate in BU. Australia 1922 3d with dramatic die gouge in coat of arms. Denmark 1902/1802 1 Ã-re

Incredible collection of varieties you have there. Beautiful work on the overlays helped me see everything really well.

Very nice! My favorite of that group has to be the Uruguay 1869 4 Centisimos DDO. That is sweet!

Thanks--it represents a lot of research. The 4 Centisimos is definitely the most dramatic. Cool how the date is doubled too--it was part of the hub, although those two mintmarks on each side of the date were added later. The Sweden 2 Ã-re 1906/5 is rather valuable--if Krause is any indication. Both the 1912/1 and the 1906/5 were found at one dealer. Apparently, few collectors look for these varieties, because I find many at shows.

My favorite of the lot is the half farthing. Just for the girl!

Slav, right--I prefer the early Victoria portraits as well; she's easier on the eyes.

That threepence is a wee ripper!
I don't collect Australian these days (been there, done that), but I do not remember encountering that variety.

Thanks, I'm fascinated by that threepence too--it's such a dramatic mark on the die. I have looked everywhere, but still have not found any other examples.
