When you go to a coin dealer how do you get the best bang for the buck. Here are a few tips I have. Please comment and add some more if you can.
1 Get to know you dealer and then your dealer knows who you are and what to collect. 2 Don't be afraid to haggle, the price can always come down. 3 Buy more than one coin at a time, its easier to have price lowered on multiple purchases 4 Know what you are buying, research before. 5 Show them you know what you are doing, and don't be afraid to question grade but always be polite.
Once I remember I was buying an 1932D quarter from a dealer. He showed me about 4 of these. I told him that one of them was incorrectly marked as a D when it was a S. He thanked me and in turn he knocked another $30 off what I bought that day

try to go during off-hours....if there are 10 people waiting to ask questions and see stuff that is probably not the best time to try to haggle.

I have made the best deals during the week days. I don't go on weekends because of heavy traffic and less time to discuss business. I have been dealing with this man for many years and when I make an offer he usually accepts. He has his buying catalogs there and marks it up 15%. Usually that is the determined price. Sometimes he gets coin sets he feels are special and he sets his own price and he will tell you these are higher than book because of greater demand. Honesty and trust begins a friendship where you feel comfortable in buying, trading or selling. Negotiate at the shows as this is where knowledge pays off. LOL

1. Find out if he has a single daughter and marry her. How could he not give a relative the best deals? 2. Always mention to him he has the lowest prices anywhere. 3. Watch his store for him for free. 4. Wash his car for free.

I was at my local coin dealer a couple of weeks ago and bought a 1878 CC Morgan. When he carried it to the cash register he said, "Now what was the price on this?" Looking at the 2X2 he said "$88.00" and I said "Unless you want to give me a discount" and he said "No discounts on Carson Citys" I have been dealing with this guy for 3 years now and he has NEVER given me a discount on anything!!

Some good ideas in here, especially Carl's about watching his store for free.

Well I guess you could always try this method. I did buy some mercs this week for 10 cents below spot and got 'em with good old fashioned cash.

I like the bullion dealer, we have a good one in Raleigh. HMMMMM, I wonder if they would noticed if I brought my RedBook with me?
