Does anybody know the mintage numbers of the 2010 proof silver eagles yet?

I don't have the exact number in front of me, but they came in right around 830,000.

The first 2 days the mint sold about 275,000. There is a limit of 100-coins per household. Lotta houses, lotta coins. Have not seen any final numbers yet though. Could be huge.

As of Friday, 01/14/2011, PCGS had graded 506 pieces at PR70DCAM. A total of 1,116 pieces had been graded.

do you think that because of the huge mintage the value will go down?

Value of modern coinage has less to do with mintage than it does with availability in the marketplace. It is at least possible that a large percentage of the 2010 Proof SAEs have been collected and are being kept. This would have a significant offsetting force against the high mintage (fourth highest of the series). It is also possible that many of the coins were bought by speculators who are thinking to turn a quick profit because of perceived demand. Really only time will tell which factor will prevail. To use two modern commemoratives as examples, the 2001 buffalo dollars and the 2006 Franklin dollars were both rapid sellouts but the 2001 coins are largely being held by collectors and maintain high prices while the Franklins were apparently largely bought by speculators and after an initial price surge they have settled back to an average position with many people having paid much more than the coins are now worth. With the 2010 Proof SAE it looks like the percentage of PR70 coins is high, about 40%. This will surely lead to reduced values for these coins as compared to previous years if the percentage holds and the coins hit the market. Of course, that notion isn't always true either. The 2009 UHRDE ended up with almost 60% of all graded coins at MS70 yet people are still paying a significant premium for those coins, even though they are more common than MS69 examples. Predicting coin values is not much better than predicting weather.

My gut tells me that the 2010 ASE will NOT carry a huge premium in the long term....at all.
Everybody who wanted one....got one.

And there's so many of them, that every coin shop and ebay seller will have them stacked and stockpiled for a millenium of time to come. Which equals = nothing special at all.
(other than the fact that the "interruption" has ceased, and the highly regarded ASE program has continuation again.....for now)

It's probably going to be the 2nd or 3rd highest minted proof ASE. A lot of people heard their subscriptions were not going to be honored and rushed to phone in or order on line. When many received their orders, they forgot to cancel their subscription to avoid double ordering. (I'm a case in point.) I'm giving them to everyone in my family.

At 44 bucks a coin; silver is going to have to go way up before anyone makes any money on this one. I'm thinking of wearing them as earrings. Maybe some one would pay to see a picture of it.
