Hello all.
I'm seeing a whole lot going on with this 1862 Seated Liberty. It looks like it was struck through and either a clash or way off double. If you look at OBV. The whole image is turned around and flipped. See the ground around her head. Now look at her outer knee is that part of the shield? Now if you look at the REV. You can clearly see part of the shield between the H&A, the head at the bottom of the wreath and her cap off to the right of that. Theirs also her dress in parts. Any idea of what happened with this one. I looked in Cherry Pickers and didn't find anything. I'm working on making a transparency to over lay to see if I've come close. But my first time. Thanks for looking. As always you guys rock.

Ok I used elements 9 to copy obv into a overlay layer opacity 45% flipped it hrz then darkened. Moved the obv transparent over rev. and boom it matches perfectly. So that says it either a struck through or a Whats it called when a coin stays in the collar and gets struck by another. The thing I dont get is why on the Obv is their two out lines bellow the wreath of lib's head. Could it be a jump. Fun Fun Fun. I really had to act quick on this one. So I hope I didnt pay too much. $160 what do you think. Thanks

Here is the final result. Took about 15min to work out the wrinkels but had to go all the way. Having to reduce the size always gets me but its a lot easier with Elements.

One more thing wouldnt it have to be something more then a strike through, On the Obv by libertys head you can see the out line of the base of obv and slightly her arm coming off what looks to me like the shield. I'm going nuts waiting for a reply. LOL Thanks for sticking in here with all my writting.

It looks like a very strong die clash. The dies came together without a blank between them and the obverse image is seen on the reverse and vise versa. Looks pretty cool. Nice find.

That is a stupid hard clash. Holy Cow. It's a wonder the dies survived, coming together so hard. What a coin.

The 1862 Half Dimes tend to come VERY sharply struck an prooflike. In Unc you would often swear the are proofs. that was achieved by a higher than normal striking pressure. This date is also well known for having some very strong die clashes. Once again the result of the higher than normal pressure. When the dies clashed, they CLASHED.

The dies clashed at least twice, look at the doubled head clash underneath the wreath.

Thanks for the info. Any idea what it might go for. I was thinking to get it graded (NGC) But I'm not sure what description it might warrant. I'm still waiting on the coin to get here. I used the description photo off E Bay. I'm nervous! I left a similar post on Blank Talk forum. The feedback I got from them was mostly "That seller uses photo shop, Your lucky at best if the coin is cleaned. Ect Ect... But on here great feedback.
