I've had this on the Great Britian forum but guess it belongs here because of the P mint mark. Has anyone ever seen a rotated reverse like this on a sovereign. If it's rare, any idea about value. By the way, my local coin/gold dealer told me the coin is genuine.

I don't know much about Soereigns, but I hope you get a response soon--if it's in fact minted in Perth.

Well, I know practically nothing about Sov's, but I do have a 1980 Renniks Gold Coin Values Book, and this is what is has for a 1918P:

F - $165.00
VF - $175.00
EF - $200.00

I have a mintage figure of 3.812m written in by hand, so I don't know how accurate that info is. Not even sure if it's my writing.

How to account for the next 31 years and bring the rotation into the equation is anybody's guess.

Not real up to date info, but I'm sure there will be someone else along soon who can give you better info. I know I'd be very happy if the coin was mine and I wouldn't part with it.

Thanks DVCollector & nancyc. Hopefully I'll find out about the rotation on this forum.

UPDATE! Saw several specialists at a coin show this weekend. They were of the opinion that this was one of many well made counterfeits from Lebanon made in the 80s. Also saw a gorgeous $3 gold fake made in the teens.
