As I am really new to coin collecting I am trying to determine what is wrong with the $2 coin I have. Is it whats called a Cud or a mistrike etc. Below is the OBVERSE and REVERSE scans. I would appreciate any help to what it is. Edited by urbanski 01/11/2011 7:43 pm

Quote:Is it whats called a Cud or a mistrike etc. It is slightly off centre, but within RAM tolerances. It is very common on all denominations. Spend it wisely. Your shout

Yass is correct, slightly off center and something you see all the time. Worth $2.

Before you spend it, make sure that there's not a small Rim Cud on the Rev, diagonally to the right & above the Grass Plant at approx the 2.15 - 2.30 position.

Nancy, I infer that, if you are getting into CCF, that you are still above water ...
Urbanski, I'd keep that one until I found a better one. Collecting from circulation has the advantage of minimizing your expenses.

I concur with Nancy. Looks like a small rim Cud and, therefore, worth keeping. Nancy advised me this morning she is well above the water but I did see some footage of roof tops just out of the water that were stated to be in the suburb where she lives! I assume she must be reasonably close. Jeff

Many thanks to all who replied, nancy yes you are also correct there is a small Cud at around 2.15 ......sharp eyes or what. I originally thought it to be (after I submitted it and apart from a small Cud)to be perhaps a centered broad strike. Cheers

urbanski great skills with placing pictures here Nothing unusual about this common well circulated $2 coin, most $2 coins are not centred perfectly and the $2 is the only decimal circulated coin with no known variety or scarce type

I am quite high & dry, thanks for asking and being concerned. I consider myself very lucky compared to tens of thousands of others in Qld.

The 1999 $2 has two obverse type - large head close to the rim and small head text further from the rim The 2001 has two obverse varieties - large head with IRB spaced and smaller head joined.

I'd love to tell you more, but it would be off topic. Start a new thread and I'll provide the details.
