It definitely appears to be at least MS63. There are a couple areas on the reverse that could be glare from the pic or marks on the coin. If it's just glare, I see this coin as a possible 64. The strike on the arm seems a little mushy to go to 65. Very nice coin!

grovey, nice coin but I am not that familiar with Walkers to grade them accuratly.I know your a walker fan and wanted to know what you thought of this. A little while back I broke my "collector mode" and bought a Walker for the first time in many years. I was bumming ebay and caught an auction on a "David Hall's" graded MS65 Gem 1945D Walker. It is in the pre PCGS sealed plastic flip. As you may or may not know David Hall is a founder of PCGS. The coin is beautiful and I know I paid way too much for it, but only $2.50 more then the losing bidder was willing to pay. I wanted the history and ended up with a rather stunning coin. Although I don’t normally collect coins made after the 1860's I had a nice collection of Walkers that I sold many years ago and have always thought they were one of if not the most beautiful coin ever minted. So I decided I'd like to have at least one and this is it! If you promise not to make fun of me for what I paid I’ll post the link!!!!Mike http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...m=3967820024I went to heritage auctions tonight and looked at other slabbed 65's,and I really paid about the going auction price and well below retail. I did not know that common date MS65 Walkers were bringing that kind of money!

For as much as it seems you love this coin, I would have to say that you didn't overpay for it at all. It is a neat piece of numismatic history having a coin graded by Hull before PCGS. I wish the seller had posted better pics. Do you think you might get a chance to take better ones and post them?

Susan, Yes, I have now assembled everything I need to photograph and/or scan coins. I want to play around with the new camera for a few days, but have not found the time. My wife is a photo bug and is going to teach me how to do close up pictures. She is finishing her thesis for her Master's Degree and is very busy right now as she still works about 50 hrs. Per week! The coin is probably the best condition and best looking coin that I own! What a great surprise. The flip is pristine and looks like the day it was made.Although I don't have much experience grading walkers,I'm thinking the MS65 grade may be conservitive. Mike I new that I never should have said I was done with moderns! Although this particular "crow" is pretty tasty!

The word "never" is what got you. I do the best I can to use any other word than that. Every time I say I'll never... or that will never..., it always does! Somebody up there has a very interesting sense of humor

I can see a 63 for this coin. Not as sharply struck as one would hope, but many of the "War" Walkers suffer from weak strikes.
Nice coin!
