Hi All

I am a collector of world coins. Including the U.S. coins. I have a few Foreign coins that I was thinking I'd like slabbed. Who does this?

Most of the TPG's will do it.

Agreed, I know NGC does it. Look at the various grading tiers and services and you should see foreign coin listed. There may be a different category for ancient coins.

I cannot in good faith recommend slabbing non-US coins at this point, at least from a profit standpoint. The rest of the world generally grades their own coins to a stricter standard than the US; attribution/authentication by US TPG's are not perfectly consistent. Furthermore, upon resale, a large plurality of potential buyers would be abroad, and they're not as much in tune with US TPG's.

True but note, he never mentioned reselling. I would think an explanation as to why he wants them slabbed and graded would be necessary first in order to say yes, no, maybe. Also, note he mentioned he has a few so again, may not be in this for monitary gains.
If a person wants a coin graded and slabbed for just themselves with no intent on selling them, then it could not really matter who does the grading and slabbing.

just carl, It is just a few, and for my own collection. I don't sell any of my coins. I do trade now and then, but that is only when I have duplicates.

I have a few Canadian, Great Britain, German, and Japanese coins that are 1800's and early 1900's in high grades. I would like them to have a better home than the 2x2 squares that they currently reside in.

Knowing nothing about these companies mentioned, could I get more info on a web site? What is TPG?

TPG = Third-Party Grader, the people you would be sending your coins to for slabbing. PCGS, NGC, ANACS and ICG are, in my opinion, your only reputable choices. If you are just looking for more secure containment of the coins, rather than authentication and "official" grading, there are many holders available which will work for you.

In that case I suggest just forgetting about having them slabbed and graded. Really serves little purpose. My suggestion is to simply purchase some books on grading and do some yourself. Also, those slabs take up a lot of room and if not ever selling, why bother. You could learn about grading and use it for all your coins. I would think that could be a bit more fun and educational than wasting money on a TPGS.
