Any idea what coin this is? I've done some searching, but can't find any information about a coin that looks like this.

Hello, brandino, and welcome to the forum!

A very interesting piece you have here! It didn't look familiar to me at all. The date suggests it was struck during the Weimar Republic. An interesting fact is that in 1926 there was a break in minting of many denominations, and in particular for 50 pf. coin the type was changed from 1925 to 1927.
I checked for the patterns and there apparently was a flurry of 50 pf. patterns issued in 1926. Unfortunately I don't have pictures in my catalog, but it could be either Pn289 (50 pf. 1926E, Cu-Ni, leaves below value), or Pn292 (50 pf. 1926E, Cu-Ni, two leaves), or Pn 295 (50 pf. 1926E, Cu-Ni, eagle), Pn 296, Pn 297, Pn 299, Pn 300, Pn 301 ("reichspfennig"), Pn 302, or Pn 304. I hope someone has more comprehensive catalog of German coins and patterns with pictures, so they could help you more.
Whichever pattern you have it has to be a rare piece (provided it is indeed one of those patterns and not a piece of play money which Germans are also so fond of).
By the way, the mintmark E means it was minted in Muldenhutten.

Don't think it was play money; there are quite a few patterns like this one. And yes, each of them is fairly rare and not exactly cheap.

Nice pattern I also believe it's Pn-295 or Pn-297. No value listed in Krause though it's a scarce coin.

"Pn-295 or Pn-297"

I'm fairly new to this so what does all that mean?

Those are catalog numbers from the Krause catalog of World Coins. As I mentioned above due to the number of patterns they did not provide pictures, so it's pretty impossible to determine the exact match. But it doesn't matter. If you follow the link provided by chrisild you'll find there your piece and see what they valued it at.

I see. Well, that site is currently telling me $564. I may have to get this coin graded and see where things go.

The number in the mcsearch.info database refers to the Schaaf catalog ("Die Proben der deutschen Münzen", published in 1979). Guess that this http://www.mcsearch.info/record.html?id=308106 is your piece; note the comment "Schaaf 324 / G 26" in the description. Schaaf used the Jaeger catalog numbers (in this case, 324) and then added a pattern number (in this case, G 26). Yours could also be G 25, with a (slightly) bigger head of the eagle.

Such a pattern will have a low mintage, say 50 or so. On the other hand there may well be many pattern types "per Jaeger number"; the Schaaf alone lists 35 different patterns for Jaeger 324. And Schaaf knew his catalog was not complete ...
