Is it possible there were some business strikes produced in SF this year? My RedBook shows only proofs being turned out in SF in 91 but I am following another sites questioning about what a member has. It doesn't look like the coin in question coin could ever have had a prooflike surface.

No they did not strike any business strikes. And if a proof die somehow missed the polishing process it would be so glaringly obvious that the chances of it being put into the press and used would made winning the lottery look easy.

Proof coins are found in change all the time lately. Poor economy makes for rhefts in homes and coin stores more common. Criminals do not know the difference in a proof or anything else. To them those are just really shinny coins that still fit into a vending machine or coin counter. After a few times in people's pockets, change purses, banging around in a cash regester, etc., even a proof starts to look like a normal coin.

I have done a lot of half roll hunting and gotten many proofs. Kids raid parents' collections or when a spouse dies, other takes it to bank.
