This would be a gold plated coin. It usually comes in sets. For example yours probably came as a gold plated year set or a gold plated State Quarter set for that year. The entire set usually goes for $20.

I've found a few gold halves like that from the bank while searching for silver. Always just gold plated and worth face value to a coin dealer.

You reminded me of the gold plated penny I found once. I went to dig it out and learned that my brother has been collecting gold plated coins:

Someone posted one in the mainforum and after a few years his turn green and nasty colored

it doesn't matter if it was real gold or not, the layering is so thin that the gold would be worth about 3 cents

not even 3 cents. My Father runs a plating shop and will plate a hand full for less than that. I think he said it is about 5 halves for a cent is what it cost him. but with gold being so high now maybe it is down to 4 per

I have a Roman gold plated silver coin, of Postumus, in almost 'as struck' condition.

Value? It's certainly not worth any more, but I doubt if it is worth much less.

I like it. The gold plating has helped to preserve it. It looks freshly minted.

I also had a gold plated gold coin. I gold plated it. Why? the plating covered some very distracting marks. value? Same comments as with the Postumus above.
