Found in a Food Lion parking lot today in Virginia. It couldn't have been there long since the patina is only scratched lightly in a couple places. Last picture is two worn Buffalo nickels stacked up against it. TIA, nlp

Not ancient, but possibly quite old. The script in the bottom pic is Arabic or a variant, so it's part of the Islamic series. Thick copper coins like this are typical of the Indian series. Unfortunately there's not enough script left for me to read any of it.

I too think it likely to be Indian given it's thickness - probably a Mughal Empire dam or half dam (depending on weight). But yes - it's too far gone to nail it down.

Sap is right. I brought home 5 of these from India. Each of mine has much more inscription on them than the one pictured. The five of mine cost me 20 paise each (total 1 rupee) in 1970.
