I may be wrong here but would like some opinions:

http://cgi.ebay.com/GOLD-ANCIENT-RO...t_720wt_1139

http://cgi.ebay.com/GOLD-ROMAN-ANCI...t_720wt_1139

I'm sure someone selling genuine coins would go to the trouble of actually stating who they were issued by (Caracalla or Elagabalus? and Geta)

Modern dies. Quite possibly made last week or even more recently 8-).

Here is one of several examples of fake denarii from the same dies as the Geta.

That's a No - No.

The seller needs to be reported.

Note the description "please make sure you double check the coin before making your bid on it." In other words, "I'm selling a fake". Low life.

He has 2 feedbacks (1 x Oct, 1 x Nov) totalling £1080 for similar coins, feedback is positive!

How can people spend that kind of money and be so gullible!

Thanks maridvnvm, I hoped you'd be able to find an exact match.

I looked on Forum Ancient Coins this morning but in my sleep deprived hung over state I was unable to spot this one!

Have been looking at a few of this sellers bidders and one from Israel seems to do a lot of 'bidding up' but little buying, also has 100% bid activity with this seller.

Never reported anything before - are ebay interested or do they show their usual crappy customer service in their unending quest for more fees?
Rest in Peace

Oh, but he offers "Seven-day money back". Shipping from London? By seven days the package should be SOMEWHERE in the U. S.!

It's easy to get positive feedback if the buyer is either a shill to establish authenticity or a buyer that just doesn't know what they have. ebay cares little as the Tiffany law suite illustrates. Report the seller and ebay will require proof. Good luck.

The coin that Martin has kindly reproduced here wouldn't really fool an experienced collector but it probably would fool a novice or someone just wanting a cheap ancient coin. I'd put these in the "dangerous" category for that reason.
