My local dealer has 55-S LWC rolls for $28. They seem quite original, all coins are red, nearly all grade at least 63, and there are 64's and 65's in there as well as some neat die varieties like the "BIE". I think the chance exists to find some of the rare (i.e. repunched mintmark) varieties since the rolls don't seem to have been cherry picked. Gray sheet lists these rolls at only $15 or so which makes the price seem a bit high. That said, I think the typical BU roll one gets in a dealer to dealer transaction will have any 64/65's cherry picked out and may contain some RB coins etc...

Sounds like these are not OBW rolls? Just loose, tubed rolls?
Offer him $18 and tell him it's $3 over CDN ask....see if he bites. That's a fair price to pay from a BM shop. They would only be worth $28 if they were original OBW.
Even more fun, bring in a BU roll and offer to sell to him, see if he pulls out a GraySheet....if he does, tell him to check the 55-S ask price while he's in there. LOLOLOL

1. $20 is a fair price, and it doesn't matter if it's in a shop, and it doesn't matter if the rolls appear original (bank wrapped) - the coins are all the same price.
2. "BIE" die breaks are NOT varieties. They are minor errors and generally do not bring any premium value. Don't pay a premium for a roll because it has something like that in it.

I payed $20 for a couple of rolls from a member here. Seemed to be a fair price to me and I was very satisfied!

I would pay $20.00 but if it is not a bank wrapped roll chances are it was already searched for error's/varieties so if you are interested because of the varieties or error's don't waist your time. or I wouldnt

Current Greysheet "Ask" is $16.50 for wholesale. $28 sounds high - offer $20 and see what happens.

If they are atleast ms-60 you could keep the nicer ones ms-63 + and sell the lower grade MS maybe 50 cents or a 1$ each ,
What stinks is 55-s looks on paper to be a good investment. with a " lower mintage number " but its still " 44 million "
Im looking at my 1933-d in my album and wondering with only " 6 million " why has this coin not sky rocketed in price over the last 25 years. Same with my 1926-s with only "4.5 million "
Sometimes low mintage numbers dont always seem to bring the coin it value , cant figure it out but thats the way it is . Def when you look a the 31-s less then 1 million but very low priced IMO

I went ahead and got two of the 55-S rolls from cheap slabs. Cost shipped was $16.79 per roll.
Coins were decent all red MS-60 to MS-65 in proportions one would expect from a typical BU roll.
