Hey everybody, I was just wondering what a good price to aim for on a USSR mint set, I am looking for one of the cheaper years because I am just starting out with world coins.

talking about USSR I have to say I had to say my friend used to have 2 of these so since the moment I saw it I love it and had to go one of my many 1885 morgans to own this little piece of history !   but to be honesty with you russian cois are very chip you just have to find a russian friend with family in russia to help you to get any ussr coin you want ! |

they are usually cheap but my friend ask me for one of my 1885 Morgan dollars and I gave him so ! I could not waste the chance to have this 1 communist rubre because USSR is gone with the wind and now is history . this coin was made when they had the Moscow Olympic games and also celebrate the launch of the USSR satellite as showed in the reverse pretty cool ! |

Should be able to pick a late 80s or 90s Soviet mint set for under 20-30 dollars. That said, I got a fair bit of Soviet commemorative rubles that I have to get rid off. Some of them are discolored which I will have to sell for real cheap.

In general you can pick up the coins for a lot cheaper. There is a set of coins from the last year of communism when they changed their coinage with a picture of a building in the Kremlin on it, that you could probably find for $5 or something, not sure how much I spent but not much.

You mean this?  I didn't know the importance of it until I had someone emailing me asking if I was willing to sell this coin. Puzzled over why he would want something that's common, he was kind enough to explain the variety difference and I realize this is not a normal coin. I figured this must have been a mule as well as the older Soviet rubles were using /\ as opposed to /|, i.e. muled with an older die. As I promised to look for a similar coin when I can find one, the last one that I have seen on ebay was sold for probably over 100USD a couple of years ago. Pretty tough I tell you. I suprisingly don't have Lenin's birth anniversary duplicate. This is this Soviet coin lot that I bought off for cheap and hence the reason why I am trying to get rid of. The 1991 Barcelona Olympics javelin thrower is only sold as proof and the mintage is relatively low - around 40,000? There's one on ebay at the moment starting out at 1.50 but it has a haze toning on it. Will keep you in mind when I find them. I wasn't aware I was missing it till I got the Krause catalog, I just assumed I had a complete Barcelona set. By the way in the Krause they don't make a difference value-wise between two varieties of "L" in the Year of the Peace ruble. I need to look into that - how rare the variety is! |
