So as stated before, almost sure I'm backwards on this buy but I'm giving it to someone anyways to further future business. Help me out with the grade please. Also, I know you have to see the coins but is it possible that this coin has been cleaned? I see alot of black build up around almost every crevice. Checked the VAM on it and I am almost positive its normal. Paid: $30 + $2 Shipping. One last thing, it's scratched to death. =|

there is no such thing as a "Normal Morgan", they are all VAM's. Right off the bat in just what is shown in the pictures provided I see it has a broken 4 star and it has a S MM, and had polishing in the hair near the neck. This all tells me its a VAM-17. Now I would need better pictures of the Reverse to tell you what variation of the VAM this coin is. But if what I think I see is clashing it could very well be a VAM-17A,VAM-17B or VAM-17C which all are a HIT List-40 coin and a Super CD coin as well

Thanks for informing me Bryan! I had no idea. Pretty much a reality check on how much I can miss.
I still don't understand polishing that much but I think its like harsh marks that line up together and make the area look roughed up? If so, the hair is overpolished in almost all areas.
I checked the 17a,b,c differences and I can't see any "denticle" impressions on the reverse or front. ( I will take photos of specific areas tomorrow. )
Also, not sure if this applies to all the but "S" IS shifted to the left but not slanted.
Is it possible just to have a "17" with no letter or does it have to be something like "17a"?
Thanks for the help.

You can definitely tell it's been harshly cleaned on both sides. It's quite easy to see the hairline scratches in the larger photos.

I noticed the broken star right away too. Good to see there's some really good VAM IDers here on the forum (Bryan1315). I learn something new everyday!

I wanted to add, some clashes can be hard to see until you tilt or turn the coin just right. You may have a VAM-17 but its worth checking to see if its a VAM-17A,B or C also. They are not really expensive VAM's but they are really interesting because it is believed to have up to 6 different clashes and it was the first "denticle clash" ever identified

Thank you all again for the info. The coin was originally an item for a friend so I gave it to them with the information. I couldn't see past the cleaning that was done to it and it just made me not appreciate it.
