Here is a 1917 type 1 Standing Liberty quarter... it is raw with blinding luster... I bought it as an AU. There were two to pick from, one had no head details and showed some rub... this one stood above by a wide margin. Any thoughts? (click on the pic for a larger version...) Soft Lighting... Here is a HUGE IMAGEShowing Luster Here is a HUGE IMAGE

Very nice coin! It may have been dipped at one point, but I think it would be considered problem free from the market(ie slabbable). I would grade it AU-58.

AU65? I waited for a long time to get one of these... I wanted this exact year and type as my first (besides some worn out ones I bought as a kid). This was my Xmas gift. When the dealer pulled both AUs out of the case, I could not believe the luster.. as much as any Washington I own actually. I do not know enough to say if she is AU or better, but it seemed like a deal at AU Bid... especially compared to the other one he had.

That coin. Is. Awesome. I don't know where other people are seeing the wear, it looks MS to me. Full head and everything. You did really good with that one, even if it is AU.

This coin is why I hate AU58 just not fair a trace of wear can knock down an otherwise flawless coin

Wow again! This is the coin my mother always hid from us when we were young. I've always been dazzled by Mac Neil's portrayal of Liberty. I remember getting one, type 2, every Saturday to take to the movies. She always bought admission, a Coke, popcorn, and JU JU Bees with a nickle left over. I thought I was rich!

Boggles my mind that they discontinued this beautiful coin for the comparatively lame Washington quarter

That is a cool story... it was a more innocent time it seems! On the flip side... if they reissued this as a commemorative today, it would sell out in an hour! As for the series... I guess I will look for other deals like this but it will be a very slow process to even get a very small collection. I still don't see any rub or break in the luster but I am new to this series and maybe don't want to see it!?

I would certainly suggest sending this one over to PCGS wouldn't surprise me to see him come back in an MS-64 holder SLQ's are tough to grade from photos
