I'm a little late on posting this, but while I was at the fun show, someones "prized coin" was an SGS PR-70 1982 Washington Wat up wit dat?(i feel like I'm on SNL, now!)

my sister also got a Franklin pierce 2010-S dollar coin in MMNS(Michigan masters numismatic service) PR-69. if it were Proof 69, then it would be a $22 dollar coin, why give it away?!?! I would expect something like I got, a set of 6 cents, a 1993 zinc, a 1982 copper, a 1967 copper, a 50's wheat, a reprocessed steel, and a cleaned AG Indian.

I've seen a couple of other basement slabs there, I just listed the two.

well, at lest I'm smart enough to not buy them, LOL

Grading companies are bad enough, but the "basement" variety don't seem to show a shred of credibility.

There's nothing wrong with buying basement slabbed coins as long as you're grading and pricing the coin yourself and not placing any value or trust in what the company graded it.

The dealers may have also bought the coins that way and figured it was easier for protection. Let someone else crack it out run the risk of damaging it.
